Con los primeros pasos de Armstrong sobre la luna, la historia, la posibilidad de la supervivencia del ser humano en el universo, todo se modificó. Nada fue lo mismo. Una real odisea, tal como fue metaforizado por Arthur C. Clarke y Stanley Kubrick en 2001 (inicio de una saga escrita por el primero), que apareció un año antes.

Con 2001 Odisea del Espacio no hubo una novela “antes” y una película “después”. En realidad, el proyecto iba a ser conjunto entre Clarke y Kubrick, con el primero como co-guionista. Pero al parecer la presión de Kubrick fue tanta que la idea terminó por concretarse por caminos separados -aunque decididamente complementarios- como relato escrito y película. Clarke aparece acreditado como guionista junto a Kubrick en “2001″, la película. Y Kubrick firma junto con Clarke la nota introductoria de la novela.
2001 se basa vagamente en The Sentinel (1951). Para los interesados, el link del cuento de Clarke, que también es una buena adición a tus links:

“The next time you see the full moon high in the south, look carefully at its right-hand edge and let
your eye travel upward along the curve of the disk. Round about two o’clock you will notice a
small, dark oval: anyone with normal eyesight can find it quite easily. It is the great walled plain,
one of the finest on the Moon, known as the Mare Crisium-the Sea of Crises. Three hundred miles
in diameter, and almost completely surrounded by a ring of magnificent mountains, it had never
been explored until we entered it in the late summer of 1996.”
